National Minority Health Month

National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities

By: Ashley Aiton

The month of April is National Minority Health month. This month is a chance to learn and understand the different health disparities that there are among ethnic and racial minorities in the United States.

It is important to stay educated on how we can help to eliminate these differences in healthcare. Many of these disparities are due to factors including health literacy, economic status, and individuals understanding the tools that are accessible to them.

Health literacy is a main focus for the Rexburg Free Clinic. We will be providing community health classes this spring in order to provide everyone who is interested. These classes will give individuals equal opportunity to learn and understand the health topics and struggles that we are faced with on a day to day basis. We will be working on providing these classes in both English and Spanish in order to accommodate a bigger portion of our community.  Stay tuned to learn more about these classes!

Economic Status is another reason for health disparities. Individuals of a lower economic status feel as though they are on their own and have no way of receiving medical attention. This is why we are here! We are here to help those who feel alone. The Rexburg Free Clinic is here to offer medical support to those who are in need of assistance. We are here to help keep our community healthy and lift each other up.

Finally, understanding what tools are there for you. We aim to teach individuals this in order to keep them healthy and safe. We know that understanding healthcare can be a daunting task. We are here to promote this understanding.

We would like to invite everyone to read more about National Minority Health month in order to stay informed. Our goal is to make sure that everyone in the community feels loved and supported. We are here to provide medical assistance to those in need and to educate everyone on health.
